CubCorner’s favorite shows…

Cub
Someone recently asked me what my favorite TV show of all time was. That’s pretty easy, it’s Doctor Who. But then I got thinking and decided to make a top ten list. Then I realized I’m too much of a TV Nut to just have one top ten list and I decided I had to organize it by genre. So here you go, after the cut, my top ten list(s) - which turn out to be more of a top 60 list, lol. I have to admit, my lists are pretty eccentric. There are probably a lot of shows on there you may never have heard of. What are your favorite shows? Any shows in common?

Film Grain Edumacation

film
I’ve been in Des Moines all week for work training. My house has been in the hands of my younger brother and, while I know he’s responsible, I’m anxious to get back up there later today to check on the place (and my cats).

Now that Blu-Ray has won the format war, I’ve found a new soapbox issue to educate others about. It’s about film grain and how some studios are removing it from blu-ray releases. My friend Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits has written an eloquent piece on the matter, which I’ve included after the cut. Here’s hoping this doesn’t blow up to be the next ‘anamorphic widescreen’ issue. Take a few minutes and read the article after the cut tag, it’s well worth it…

bSIDE: Wig In A Box

wiginabox.jpg
I recently rediscovered Wig in a Box: Songs From and Inspired by Hedwig and the Angry Inch and fell in love with it all over again. This amazing benefit album came out (no pun intended) back in 2003 and all proceeds go to the Hetrick-Martin Institute, home of the Harvey Milk School, a place of learning and counseling for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth. So go here and buy your very own copy! There was also a very good documentary made during the recording sessions called Follow My Voice: With the Music of Hedwig that’s worth checking out - it’s available on Netflix (thanks for the additional info on that, Steve W :-).

1. The Origin Of Love - Rufus Wainwright
2. Angry Inch - Sleater-Kinney and Fred Schneider of The B-52’s
3. The Long Grift - They Might Be Giants
4. Sugar Daddy - Frank Black
5. City Of Women - Robyn Hitchcock
6. Freaks - Imperial Teen
7. Wicked Little Town (Hedwig Version) - The Breeders
8. Nailed - Bob Mould
9. Wig In A Box - The Polyphonic Spree
10. Milford Lake - John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask
11. Ladies & Gentlemen - Stephen Colbert
12. Tear Me Down - Spoon
13. Hedwig’s Lament/Exquisite Corpse - Yoko Ono and Yo La Tengo
14. Wicked Little Town (Tommy Gnosis Version) - Ben Kweller, Ben Folds, and Ben Lee, known collectively as The Bens
15. Midnight Radio - Cyndi Lauper and Minus 5
16. The Origin Of Love - Jonathan Richman

Brenda Dickson, I know this is old but its funny as hell.
